颱風要過來, everybody run!‏

This title is the same as my companion. It means, the Typhoon wants to come,..

These pictures are of this last weekend...yes you do get more email from me so soon. Last Wednesday was Temple day. It was just as refreshing as it should be and I only wish it would happen more often. I realized how much I missed being in the temple.
Anyways, back to these pictures. The first is of Liao Guo Qin 廖國欽 He has been our under the radar convert, but from his testimony after he was baptised he truly is converted. We were really excited for him and we hope that the ward will really step up and take care of him as we move from the area. He is incredible. Next is our tasty love cakes, we were told to stay in our appartment because of a typhoon that hit the east coast of Taiwan on Sunday (8/28). We got to nap, and have cooking adventures. We finished a rice dish and then both wanted something sweet for a dessert. Around our appartment we don't have that much stuff to make, and there is a general lack of ovens in Taiwan so we couldn't bake. What we did have was, a pan, oil, pancake mix, brown sugar and cinnamon...oh, yes we had an adventure all right. We moisten the pancake mix enough to make it a firm dough, then mixed the sugar and cinnamon we pressed the dough in to hearts and covered them inside and out with the cinnamon sugar, then put it into the oil to fry. It's like a caramilzed snickerdoodle. We ate those for a while and eventually Elder Bogle gave them their name...then we he told one of our zone leaders about it he tried to translate it into chinese, that didn't go so well it ended up 好吃愛的蛋糕 haochi ai de dangao (good eat love type cake).
As for the week, it was interesting, but obviously full of miracles. At church we had a lot of people that we weren't expecting. A young woman brought her friend. The Zhang family brought a friend, and a girl that we contacted last week came as well. it was unfortunate that we were sent home so that we couldn't end up teaching the lessons that we had planned. Liao was confirmed and loved the feeling. (that reminds me, another investigator from when I first got on island, chen, got baptised in 新竹 xinzhu last week and got the Aaronic Priesthood this week.)

Our lessons with 黃聖文 Huang Sheng Wen (a recent really incredible investigator) have been going well. He really understands why we obey, and is willing to live the commandments. Tithing will be the hardest for him, but he still has a little bit of time, because we had to move his date (he has had to work every Sunday and has only been to church once).

Coming up there will be a lot of work in getting some new solid investigators and trying to retain more, because a lot of the people we have been finding recently have lost interest pretty quickly.

I have been reinvigorated in my gospel study over the last few days. Elder Bogle and I have had some enlightening discussions and I am trying to continue to store up the words of life so that I can teach with more power and authority, so that I can use the words of God and those given me by the spirit to help our investigators. It is in finding the butter and honey and not the meat of the gospel that I can help others come unto Christ. Searching in the scriptures combined with earnest prayer brings revelation and the blessings of heaven.

I know that my Redeemer lives! I know that He has saved us all, not in our sins, but from our sins. I know that we have living prophets on this earth, who through the power and by the guidance of an unchanging, loving Heavenly Father, lead us today. I know that the Book of Mormon is absolutely the word of God. I know that it will literally help me and all others that apply to a study of it come nearer to God and our Savior Jesus Christ. I know this church is the only true and living church on this earth. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. (奉耶穌基督的名, 啊們)
Love,
沈義謙
