Week 5

So there was a change of P-day, I will be sending out the email on Tuesdays. There were some other big changes to our schedule and I am really excited. Now Marshall and I have the same schedule.

This past week was full of excitement for the older generation as they all got their travel plans. Most of us in the younger generation don't quite feel ready to be the 'older' more experienced elders and sisters. It will be very exciting to see who comes and and see how our numbers will grow (we expect 30 missionaries to replace the 17 that will leave).

Last Tuesday Elder Richard G Scott came. He talked about many things including witnessing of Jesus Christ as our living Savior and Redeemer. He told us to cherish our study time, and gave us an apostolic blessing of the gift of tongues. He also talked about writing down promptings and then to do them; the spirit will never tell us to do something beyond which we can do. He talked about how we were called by the Lord through apostles to where we are serving. He also told us not to limit ourselves to what we think our potential is, the Lord knows our potential much better than we ever will. The spirit of meekness and humility in this meeting, and the day following, was astounding.

Wednesday was a call to repentance. Our teacher watched us waste time in companionship study, luckily we used that opportunity to learn how to plan more effectively and sure up our teaching plans for both of our investigators. I also began work on radicals (that's what makes up characters and gives them their sound and meaning).

Thursday we taught Allan with a member. We discussed Mosiah 18 1-17 and 2 Nephi 31. Then we asked him to be baptized. He accepted and the hopeful date is May 11.

Friday we taught Amy and had our first breakthrough; she prayed with us, asking for feelings of the spirit and comfort. We had also been working for the past few days on follow ups and short visits every day.

Saturday we had TRC again. The first sister we taught was from Taipei and she was more than a little bit excited to hear we were going there. She had lots to say about how we sounded and the attitude and spirit we had. That lesson was great, but the second was better, as I saw a member of my student ward from BYU. She lit up as soon as she recognized me, and then we had a great lesson (Aaron I hope you heard something about this, I told her to mention it to you).

Sunday, like each other Sunday, was wonderful. This week the branch president spoke in our ward (President Baker). He served as a young missionary in Taiwan, then went back as a mission president. He loves the language and encourages us to speak it and focus on our towns. He told us of the advances which have been made to help the gospel go forth to the Mandarin speakers of the world. Later, during our fireside, Steven B Allen, director of the missionary department, spoke. He shared many things with us, one of which was to take care of our companions. We also heard an organ Solo from an elder from Hungary, he played a Concerto in A minor (I think) by Vivaldi arranged for organ by JS Bach, then go tell it on the mountains (played all with his feet) at the request of Brother Allen. This elder will be serving in the Utah Ogden mission so if you get him ask him to play for you.

Yesterday we started a lesson with Allan on the commandments, hopefully he can follow the Zhihuiyu (word of wisdom)

I love you all,
Shen Zhang Lao
