Week 4

This has been a wonderful week for me. Our 'investigators' are coming along well (as far as I can tell). They are starting to keep commitments and we are able to teach them, for the most part, what we want. Amy and Allan are both very different, but we have learned very quickly that they both need some of the same things. We are trying to get some other missionaries to act as members for our lessons.

The language is coming great as well. I am able to say in lessons quite a bit of what I want to say. I am learning characters too and am starting to read the Book of Mormon in characters; I love this language. I hope no one minds me talking in more Mandarin than in English when I get home.

This past Tuesday we had a devotional with President Rasband of the Seventy. He talked about 3 steps to always have the spirit to be with you: bridle your passions, garnish your thoughts with virtue, and ask for the spirit. As was stated in conference, many people live below their privileges and many times all one has to do is ask for desired blessings.

Sunday, at our fireside, Brother David B. Wirthlin said that covenants without ordinances do nothing, but that ordinances unlock blessings. After the fireside we sang called to serve in a cool way, like an army marching. I wish you got a chance to see it, but you'd have to be here when they do it.

Apparently the Brother of Jared is the older brother. We found that out when one of the sisters in the zone mentioned that when they say it in the scriptures it uses the characters for older (they checked with the first presidency during the translation). Interesting fact, this also goes along with Mandarin being very context based language.

Life is good. I'm eating well. My companionship is very good, we teach well and we have fun together. Our district unity is building. Only 8 more weeks then I'm in the field.
