The Weekend Update

Song of the post, "Return" by Ok Go. This song has a lot of meaning to me from a time a while ago that was not the happiest. It always has had a sense of melancholy to me since I first listened to it, but I've had certain experiences with it that always come to mind when I hear it.

Its been a while since Wednesday. Sorry that I haven't updated since then. You all know how hectic my Thursday is. I don't remember what happened on Friday. Saturday was pretty hectic with the pre-release and everything I did that day. I didn't have time for much of anything. I did get to see the proposal last night; at least it was better than Confessions of a Shopaholic--worst movie I have ever seen.

We have all of everything set up now. Our Comcast internet is working, all the computers have Snow Leopard installed (except the problem one that is in the shop right now. we think the hard drive overheated), and all the home theater stuff is set up and working really well. Life is still good, with very minor incidents this week.

I had an interesting discussion with my drum teacher, who has to B.S. degrees in anthropology and sociology. The discussion centered on the idea that people live up to their labels, and more specifically they live up to how they think people view them. Some examples came from people we knew he talked about his sister, and how in high school he had really long hair so everyone passed him off as a druggie (he never did drugs even though he was offered them many times). The biggest thing I got out of that was that how you think people treat you, you will treat them. Like the golden rule, but a little backwards. If you think people will hurt you, you won't let anyone close enough to you, or you will try hurt them first. If someone doesn't fit into that mold then you will overlook that at the expense of something else. Basically it makes me think of how I label people sometimes, and how I need to be more positive to people and not build those classifications that break people down and don't give them that room to grow.

Meanwhile, back on the ranch. Conference is next Saturday and Sunday. I hope you guys are all excited. There will be lots of good counsel and I hope we can all listen, I know I have a hard time sometimes (it's going to be interesting to teach a lesson on Obedience in a couple of weeks).

That's all from me right now, time to play FarmVille or ODST or something.
